Safety Tat - review and giveaway!

As a child I remember hearing horror stories of friends being lost for the day when they visited a festival/event with their families, and I also remember seeing tents set up specifically to aid in re-uniting families during such happenings.

In this day and age of cell phone [with nearly every family in possession of one], why aren't we taking advantage of this technology?

Husband and wife team Bob and Michelle invented Safety Tats for this purpose: a 'temporary tattoo' that you write your cell phone number [or home number] on, a Safety Tat allows your child to accurately inform their rescuers of their guardian's contact information.

To be honest, when I first received these [before I even opened the package], I didn't think I'd be able to say anything about them that I couldn't say about writing on a bandaid. Oh, how I was wrong:
-These stay on. I've been wearing one for a week in a high friction place, and it's still securely fastened. I just peeled it off in honor of this review, and it came off easily- very similar to a bandaid, but a bit less painful.
-The included pen is very easy to draw with, has a fine tip, does not smudge or smear [at all!] and is permanent. The information you write on the Safety Tat is as clear a week later as it was when you wrote it.
-This is no bandaid. Not only are the Safety Tats so thin they feel like skin [they retain heat the same way and repel water], but they don't cause irritation. I've worn bandages for a couple of days and the skin might pucker or get irritated and itchy [I've got sensitive skin], but absolutely nothing happened with my Safety Tat. Nada. I only remembered I was wearing it when I walked past a mirror on the way to the shower!

The only downside I've come up with is the price- $9.95 for a set of 6 seems like it may discourage regular use. I looked at the selection on their site, and it appears the packages I was sent are the smallest ones- packages of 30 are only $19.95, and 60 are $32.95!
I personally will be keeping a stash in my medicine cabinet for the summer months especially; we attend numerous events, and my child's safety has no price limit.

Bob and Michelle have offered three of my readers a package of Safety Tats!

To enter answer either [or both!] questions:
1.) Have you ever experienced being separated from your child in a crowd (or you yourself separated from your family as a child)?
2.) What other designs would you like Safety Tat to develop next?

If you answer both, leave an additional comment stating you did to gain a bonus entry.

For additional entries you may:
- Follow me on Google friends
- Be an email subscriber
- Grab my button [three bonus! leave three comments]
- Post about this giveaway elsewhere: on your own blog, on a contest site or a linky... Make sure your entry is the first one at that location and leave me a link... two bonus per post! [limitless]

We were in walmart one busy saturday and all of a sudden my little two year old was gone .. i ran through the store calling her name and looking down every isle .. nothing went back to the orignal spot and she had crawled up onto a display of toddler beds and just sat there .. now she is very smart and she told me she just stayed there cause she couldnt find me and she didnt wanna be taken away .. what really ticked me off is workes had seen me running through that place like a mad women and they just kept going about their busniess!

2.) What other designs would you like Safety Tat to develop next? I really like this idea its great and i have no suggestions as it looks like they have really covered bases with the lost and allergy alert etc..

1. Thankfully I've never been separated from my child in a crowd and hope it never happens, that got to be the scariest thing ever.

2. They have such a wide variety of designs that they pretty much covered everything. But my girls would say more animals and bugs.

Lindsey July 3, 2009 8:05 PM

Safety tat has covered everything so I have no suggestions. What a great idea was this is. I never want to experience losing my child.

My daughter ran off and hid on me in clothing racks in a department store. We weren't really separated but boy sure makes you think. She thought it was funny

2.) What other designs would you like Safety Tat to develop next? Maybe they could get the rights to use some licensed characters (ie disneyetc)

I honest never had it happen as a kid, I have 4 kids now and I have not had it happen but I like these as when my two youngest go on trip with school they could have these on them. i have seen other kids in walmart sitting in security cause they wandered off , so these are great.

i hope i'll never experience being seperated from my children!

Tracy July 10, 2009 9:39 PM

I've never lost my child, but my oldest isn't yet 3. I'd love these for going to theme parks and crowded events. One night, I was at a friend's house and a cop drove by with a 9 year old in his car asking if anyone knew who she was. She had been wandering the neighborhood and didn't know where she lived or her phone number!!! I vowed that wouldn't be my kids!!!

Tracy July 10, 2009 9:40 PM

I would say that making a larger tat would be a good idea, just in case someone needs to add more information.

Tracy July 10, 2009 9:40 PM

I follow!

Sheilacakes July 10, 2009 10:31 PM

Thankfully No. I haven't. I hope I or anyone for that matter gets seperated from their child. I love this concept though for a just in case. I remember I got lost with my sister on a bus at the Disney world resorts.

We lost my daughter once when she was 2, and it was only for like a minute or two, but it felt like a lifetime. That horrible gut wrenching feeling took over, and I freaked out. We were at a water park, and there were about a million other kids there. Thank God we found her, I would love these for a little more peace of mind!
I would like to see some Cars for boys, and maybe some butterflies for girls!

1. No, fortunately, I have never had to go through the ordeal of becoming separated from my child, and I hope that I never do. These are a really great idea and I sure could have used them last week at Legoland!

2. Both of my boys are into race cars, so I think that would be a good idea for a boys' tat.
